7 Foods that Relieve Heartbreak

When you are suffering from heartbreak, there are many things that you can do to help lessen the pain. Here are a list of seven foods that can help strengthen your mind and body and help you move on. 

1. Walnuts

Walnuts are great for providing omega-3 fatty acids. These acids are proven to help give your brain the nourishment it needs in order to help curb depression. Omega-3 fatty acids also help keep your necessary cholesterol at a healthy level, which can lower your risk for illnesses, such as heart disease.

2. Fish

Fish is another way to get omega-3 fatty acids, which help you feel better and work to hold back any oncoming depression. There are several fish that you can eat that are rich in this beneficial fatty acid, such as salmon, tuna and sardines.

3. Turkey

Turkey, the famous, traditional Thanksgiving meal favorite, contains tryptophan that triggers neurotransmitters. Neurotransmitters are chemical messengers that are found in your nervous systems that control your mood. These transmitters can make you feel better. You can also get this sort of benefit from other foods such as milk, eggs, peanuts and soy products.

4. Rooibos Tea

Rooibos is a slightly sweet non-caffeinated tea that is thought to lower insomnia and calm jagged nerves.

5. Chocolate

A lot of people turn to sweet foods – like chocolate – when they are depressed. Wouldn’t it be nice to know that the chocolate is actually effective in fighting your heartbreak? Well, it’s true. Chocolate contains phenylethylamine, which can give you that same sort of feeling you get when you’re happy or falling in love.

Dark chocolate has extra benefits, too. Aside from containing the phenylethylamine, it also contains flavonoids that can help reduce your chances for some heart issues, as well as lowering blood pressure. Of course, chocolate is one of the foods you’ll want to eat in moderation.

6. Chicken

Along with several other foods – such as bananas, orange juice, cereal and leafy green vegetables – chicken is a good source of vitamin B. Vitamin B is another vitamin that helps you feel better, both physically and mentally.

7. Milk

Recent studies have shown that a low level of vitamin D can contribute to mental health issues such as depression. So why not get some vitamin D in your system to boost yourself up? A great and easy way to find vitamin D is to drink milk. If you don’t like or can’t drink milk, you can also try cheese, bread, beef liver, mackerel or egg yolks.

There are many foods that can make you feel better, even when you’re going through a heartbreak. If you’re feeling down, give yourself a treat by eating some of these foods and enjoy their benefits. Just remember that over-indulging in any food isn’t a good idea. Therefore, you should keep to healthy amounts.
