5 Ways to Work Off a Beer Belly

If you have been plagued with a beer belly, don’t let it get you down; let it get you moving! If the effects of happy hour are showing up on your waistline, there are several things you can do to work it off and get back into your skinny jeans. The first step toward working off your beer belly is to limit your alcohol consumption and be mindful of the beverages you’re ingesting. Don’t be tempted by $2 dollar beers, because while your bill might not amount too much, your caloric intake sure will! Instead, order just one beer and make sure it is extremely light.

To reserve the damage done by happy hour, participate in the following activities to eliminate your beer belly:

1. Cardio

Cardio is absolutely essential if you want to trim down your abdomen area. Sure, ab work can tone your stomach muscles, but this definition won’t be seen if it’s covered by a layer of fat. Therefore, you must burn this fat by elevating your heart rate and engaging in aerobic activity. Any form of cardio will do the trick, whether it’s biking, swimming or kickboxing, as long as you challenge yourself. This means your heart rate should be up, your breath should be short, and you should be sweating.

2. Dancing

What better way to work off that beer, while you’re sipping on it at the club, than to dance! Dancing is the perfect activity to supplement a night out on the town. You’ll get to burn calories while strutting your stuff and looking sexy. Dancing is a great (and fun) way to fit in some cardio and to tone your leg muscles. Remember, the lower you go, the more calories you’ll burn.

3. Pilates

Pilates is a great exercise that lengthens and strengthens your muscles, helping you appear leaner. It helps to tone your ab muscles and takes inches off your waist. Pilates should definitely be included in your beer belly-battling routine, and you’ll see results in no time.

4. Boot Camp

Nothing will whip your body into shape and remove that beer belly like an intense boot camp class! Boot camp alternates spurts of cardio with spurts of strength training, enabling you to both burn fat and tone your ab muscles. Since the exercises are constantly being switched up, your muscles continue to be shocked and stimulated, and your body burns calories quicker.

5. Running

Running is a great overall exercise that burns several calories. It is an easy exercise to incorporate into your daily routine, as it can be done anywhere, and you can choose your scenery. A great way to get yourself out and running is to sign up to run a 5K or a 10K (maybe even a half marathon if you’re really ambitious). Before you know it, you’ll have run your way into a flatter stomach.  

While it is great to enjoy a cold beer every now and then, you should keep from overindulging in this highly caloric beverage. If a beer belly does creep up on you, work it off with the previously mentioned exercises.
