A healthy marriage relationship includes physical fitness. Finding ways to exercise and be active together makes for more fulfilling couple time. Even more, having similar ideas about health and wellness and a shared desire to attain fitness goals will increase the success rate for both you and your spouse. It’s easy to maintain a healthy lifestyle when you’re both in it together. Here are some ways you can incorporate fitness into your marriage relationship.
1. Take Nightly Walks
Walking is great for both your physical and mental health. It’s also great for your relationship. Rather than plop down in front of the TV after a long day at work, take a walk with your spouse. It’s an easy way to be active and also to spend quality time together. You can talk about your days and get some fresh air at the same time. The pace of the walk is up to you. Take intense active walks some nights and leisurely walks on the others. Nightly walks are a much better alternative to mindless television watching all evening–both for your physical health and your mental well being.
2. Go to the Gym Together
You surely know that getting into shape is much easier when you have someone there to hold you accountable. That’s why gym partners are a good idea. Who better to be your gym partner than your spouse? Join a gym together and make a fitness calendar. Some couples prefer the same exercise equipment, others don’t. Don’t feel like you have to spend every minute at the gym together. You don’t necessarily have to work out side by side, but you can slice out some of your shared time to make fitness a priority.
Have gym time become part of your weekly routine. You can help one another track the progress.
3. Make Active Plans
One of the best things about being married is having someone with whom you can get out and partake in activities. Don’t allow your weekends to become lazy–get out and explore! Make physical activity part of your weekend with activities like hiking, rollerblading, bike riding and swimming. The best kind of exercise is the kind that doesn’t feel like work. Not only will you be active, you’ll feel better all around. Making the most out of your weekend is the best way to feel alive.
4. Live it Up on Friday or Saturday Night
Skip the standard night at the movies our out at the pub with your friends. Try something a little more invigorating like dancing or rollerskating. Rollerskating rinks are a fun way to relive your youth, and dance clubs make the night feel like an occasion.
5. Join a Social Sports League
If you want to be both social and active, join one of your city’s social sports leagues. From kickball to softball, there are a number of fun and non-competitive teams out there that will help you stay active. The bonus is the friendships you’ll build with other couples.
Incorporating fitness into your marriage relationship isn’t difficult. Make an effort to get out of the house and be active and you’ll both be better for it.
