5 Healthy Snacks on the Go

We live in an on-the-go society and when we are out and about, there might be a need for healthy snacks. Having snacks that are healthy will allow you to know what you are eating, what is in what you are eating, and it will allow you to be sure you are eating something that will benefit you and your diet. Some snacks are already prepared and packaged in single servings.  Others will require a bit of preparation. The snacks you choose will depend on personal preference.

1.  Crackers and Cheese

Crackers and cheese are a quick snack. The only preparation that is needed is the cutting of the cheese (if you want to have squares of cheese to put on your crackers). String cheese is also a good choice and does come in individual packages. Whole wheat crackers, whole grain crackers, animal crackers and graham crackers are good choices.

2.  Granola Bars and Cereal Bars

Granola and cereal bars are high in fiber and vitamins, but be aware of a few things. Both types of bars can have additional items added to them to make them unhealthy. The best to look for are baked organic bars with no additional sugar added.  These make for great healthy snacks because they come in individually wrapped packages that can be taken anywhere.

3.  Mixed Nuts or Trail Mix

Any kind of nut will be a great source for protein and fiber. These can come packaged in either a large container that can be used a few times or in individual serving sizes. A bag of nuts can be a bit salty for some people's tastes so for a little variety, try a trail mix.  Trail mix will have a variety of nuts in there, as well as some sweets such as M&Ms or raisins, sometimes both.  A trail mix can also be homemade with healthy choices, like raisins and dried fruit, in addition to the mixed nuts.

4.  Smoothies

For a fruit filled healthy snack, go for a smoothie. These can be made at home to be taken with, or they can be picked up at certain drive-thrus. Making them at home is the best way to get the most nutrition. You will know what type of fruit, milk and ingredients are going into the mix.

5.  Fruits and Vegetables

Fruits and vegetables are always a good food to turn to when looking for a healthy snack. They are easy to cut up and throw into a bag on the way out the door. Packages can be found in grocery stores that are premade and set to go. There are even dips to go with the fruits and vegetables.

We are constantly on the go and do not always have the time to stop and eat. With thinking ahead, a healthy snack can be ready whenever hunger strikes.
