4 Ways to Stop Stressing over Weight Loss

Weight loss is an up and down roller-coaster ride that many people deal with through their adulthood and even earlier. The focus on body image is so great that women and men are taking unhealthy measures to become what they perceive as "ideal," only to end up damaging their bodies as well as their self esteem. Here is a list of four ways to stop stressing over weight loss, and to start enjoying life.

1. Don't Compare Yourself

It's easy to flip through any magazine in the grocery store and see beautiful bodies of celebrities. They are tan, lean and have smiles on their seemingly perfect faces. What you don't see is the pain and hard work they go through every day to achieve that look. It is ridiculous to compare yourself to someone who gets paid to look good, whose job it is to appear glamorous all the time. Instead, try to spend your time thinking about the important people and things around you, and less time browsing the tabloids.

2. Take Some Time

After you have thought about the important things and people in your life, do something about it! Visit friends or relatives that you have been too busy to see. Take the time to appreciate where you live and get out to see new sights. This is a perfect time to give of yourself and forget your weight loss woes. Take up a new hobby, or see that chick flick you wanted to see. When you focus on other people or new things, you end up appreciating yourself more.

3. Splurge on a Few Nice Things

If you've been shoving your legs into the same old pair of jeans for the last two years, thinking you'll buy new ones when you "lose those 10 pounds," then stop! Great fitting jeans boost your confidence and make you feel great. Spend the money, whatever it is, and get yourself a great pair of jeans that you feel confident in. While you're at it, grab a few shirts that make you feel sexy, or beautiful, or sassy, whatever you feel like. Buying a few choice items that fit you well can do wonders for your self esteem. They don't need to be expensive, and remember that a great fit is more important than the most trendy brand name.

4. Rediscover Yourself

As hard as it is when you're unhappy with your body, think about the things you like about yourself. If you've always liked your eyes, try some new makeup or a different technique. Luscious lips? Grab some new gloss at the grocery store. Do something you normally wouldn't, and embrace that new thing. Develop your old talents, go back to school, or if you're single get adventurous with dating. If you're attached, ask that special someone what he likes about you. Plan a dinner and get to know why he fell in love with you.

Although you might think that a slim body is the most important thing, confidence makes all the difference. Doing these four things might make you feel like you're not working on your body, but you are working on your sense of self, and that makes any body sexy.
