4 Tips for Healthy Travel

You may find that healthy travel options can be easily overlooked because of hectic schedules. Whether it’s a vacation or a business trip, chances are that you aren’t familiar with your surroundings and you have to worry about daily activities you usually don’t have to deal with. This can make it hard to stay on top of eating the right foods and working out during your trip. Keeping just a few tips and tricks in mind can help you maintain a healthy lifestyle while traveling, without having to put a lot of extra effort into it.

1. Keep Snacks on Hand

It’s important to make sure that you have healthy snacks with you whenever you are on the go, and this should be the case even while traveling. A small bag of nuts, a piece of fresh fruit and a snack pack of pretzels make for handy munchies when hunger sets in. For heartier options to bring along when you know you’ll be skipping a meal, consider packing energy bars that are high in protein to hold you over until your next real meal. Drinking plenty of water throughout the day will also help you stay full. Instead of purchasing bottles of water, you can save money by purchasing your own reusable water bottle and filling it with fresh water when needed.

2. Pack a Jump Rope

When you want to focus on healthy travel, you should bring as many tools as you realistically can. Small things like jump ropes can help you fit a quick workout into your day, without having to rely on a hotel gym or a sunny to day to get outside in your spare time. A 15 minute session with the jump rope in the morning before your shower is all it takes to keep yourself in shape while on your trip. Get yourself prepared when it comes to getting around too. Instead of taking a cab or driving to all of your destinations, scout out routes where you can walk to get where you need to go.

3. Set Goals

If you plan your healthy travel around goals, you are more prone to staying on track. In a small journal create a goal and a game plan for every day you will be traveling. At the end of the day, document how well you did in comparison to your goals. This will help you stay on track by holding you accountable for your daily actions.

4. Don’t Be Too Hard on Yourself

As it important as it is for you to maintain a healthy lifestyle while traveling, it’s just as important to cut yourself some slack. A part of living a healthy life is being able to let go and have some fun. If this means that you indulge in rich foods while you are on vacation or you skip a couple of workouts during a business trip, it isn’t the end of the world. Remember that these aren’t permanent set backs, and you can always get back on track tomorrow.
