There are many easy healthy snacks that can be brought from home into the workplace. The tired feeling that follows a sugary snack is not worth the calories. Many people would rather have healthy snacks that will keep them alert and feeling efficient while they are on the job.
1. Trail Mix
Trail mix is a delicious snack that is good for the body.¬† Trail mix in the store can be expensive.¬† An economical option is to¬† make your own trail mix and bring it in a small snack size Ziploc bag. For instance, you can add dry cereals such as Cheerios, Chex or any type that you like.¬† You could add some dried fruits such as raisins, cranberries, dried blueberries, pineapple, apples, banana chips or apricots.¬† There are so many dried fruits on the market these days.
Another favorite addition to trail mix is a small bag of M & M’s. You can add this to the big bowl of mix and then odds are you will only get a few pieces of chocolate in your bag to take to work each day. You get your sweet fix without blowing the calorie count totally. Do not forget to add in nuts such as peanuts, walnuts, almonds, pecans or whatever type you prefer. Add all of your favorites together and mix in a big bowl. Take a measuring cup and put 1/2 to 1 cup of the mix into a snack size Ziploc bag.¬† Make one for each day of the work week.
2. Cottage Cheese
If you have a refrigerator at work, another healthy snack is cottage cheese. Most supermarkets sell snack size cottage cheese containers. There are even ones that are a separated container with one half cottage cheese and one half fruit sauce, such as strawberry or blueberry. They are delicious and low in calories.
Nuts are a very healthy snack. They provide fiber and healthy fats. However, do not go overboard as they are high in calories.¬† Select your favorite nuts to munch on such as peanuts, pecans, walnuts, almonds or pistachios. Take a handful and put them in a small snack size bag and take it with you to work.
Jerky is a healthy snack. It is easy to keep at the workplace. You can keep it in your desk. Jerky comes in many flavors as well as is made from many different meats such as beef, turkey, venison and even exotic jerky’s like buffalo, ostrich and gator.¬† They are seasoned differently also.¬† Some can be flavored regular, Cajun, teriyaki and many more. Purchase your jerky at a health food store as the ones in the supermarkets generally have a lot of sodium in them. Jerky is low in calories. One ounce of jerky is typically 70-80 calories.
There are many healthy snacks a person can take to the workplace each day. Trail mix, cottage cheese, nuts and jerky are only a few options. Be creative and think up good healthy snack options. Your body will thank you for it.
