4 Delicious Fat Free Desserts

Many fat free desserts offer a great amount of flavor. According to Time Magazine, two thirds of Americans are overweight. For many, fighting this battle creates a great deal of stress. Giving up favorite foods, such as desserts, creates areas of temptation too hard for some to overcome. 

Here are 4 delicious fat free desserts:

1. Chocolate Cupcakes

While most cupcake recipes include oil among the ingredients, this formula instead uses applesauce. This healthy alternative keeps the cupcakes moist without adding fat.

Spray two muffin pans with non-stick cooking spray. Combine 2 ½ cups of white flour, 2/3 cup of cocoa powder, 2 cups of sugar and ½ teaspoon of salt into a bowl and put aside.  In a different bowl, mix 6 tablespoons of applesauce, 2 ¼ cups of water, 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract, 2 tablespoons of white vinegar and 2 teaspoons of baking soda. While stirring, slowly add the wet ingredients into the bowl of dry ingredients. When completely blended, pour the batter into the muffin pan and bake in a preheated 375-degree oven for 25 minutes. This recipe makes 18 cupcakes.

2. Fruit Cobbler

The use of egg substitute for this fruit cobbler recipe avoids the addition of fat found in real eggs.

Combine ¾ cup of whole-wheat flour, ½ a cup of light brown sugar and 1 cup of oatmeal in a bowl. Add 1/3 cup of applesauce, ¼ teaspoon of almond extract and 1 ½ teaspoons of egg replacement product. Spray a pie dish with non-stick cooking spray and layer the bottom of the dish with 1 ½ cups of fruit, such as peaches or blueberries.  Pour the mixture on top of the fruit and bake in a 400 degree oven for 30 minutes, or until the dish becomes golden.   

3. Pumpkin Bars

Low in fat, pumpkin bars are particularly popular during the holiday season. Additionally, using skim milk instead of whole milk assists in keeping the fat content of this dish low.

Start by preheating your oven to 350 degrees. In a large bowl, mix 2 cups of flour, 1 tablespoon of baking powder, 1 teaspoon of baking soda, ½ of a teaspoon of salt, 1 tablespoon of ground cinnamon, ½ a teaspoon of ground nutmeg, 1/3 teaspoon of ground ginger and ½ a teaspoon of ground cloves.  In a blender, combine 1 cup of canned pumpkin, 1 cup of applesauce, 2 egg whites, ½ cup of pitted dates, 1/3 cup of skim milk and 1 cup of raisins. Blend the mixture until it becomes smooth, and combine it into the bowl of dry ingredients.  Spread the batter into a 9-inch by 13-inch baking pan that has been sprayed with non-stick cooking spray. Bake the dish for 35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out very clean. Refrigerate the dish and serve it cold.

4. Broiled Mixed Berries with Custard Sauce

In a large bowl, combine 2/3 cup of strawberries, 2/3 cup of blueberries and 2/3 cup of raspberries, with one tablespoon of no calorie sweetener and one tablespoon of lemon juice. Spread the mix in a shallow baking dish and place into a broiler for five minutes.

In a blender, add ½ a cup of silken tofu, ¼ cup of fat-free milk, 1 tablespoon of vanilla extract and 1 tablespoon of no calorie sweetener. Blend until the ingredients become smooth. Divide the fruit into four bowls, and top each bowl with sauce.

Fat free deserts take much of the pain out of losing weight and help dieters to avoid feeling deprived while trying to live a healthier lifestyle.
