15 Foods to Avoid on the Eat This, Not That Diet

The Eat This Not That diet is a diet guide which helps people to make better food choices. This diet guide recommends ‘foods to eat’ and ‘foods to avoid’. In addition to this, it reveals hidden fats and calories in seemingly healthy foods.

There are 15 foods which are wrongly perceived as healthy foods and should be avoided when possible. They are:

1. Bran Muffin

This food contains sugar and refined flour, which shoots up blood sugar immediately. Increases in blood sugar immediately after breakfast makes the body store up fat instead of boosting the metabolism to function better. Apart from fiber, this food doesn’t have much to offer.

2. Chicken Caesar Salad

A dinner sized portion of this salad is heavy with fatty dressings, rich parmesan cheese and croutons. Even a small portion of this salad before a meal can add up to 500 calories.

3. Tuna Melt

This does not refer to plain tuna, which is healthy, but to tuna soaked in mayonnaise and covered with melted cheese (in between buttered bread).

4. Chicken Wrap

This is stuffed with modified starch and fat, and the warp itself is heavy in fast burning carbohydrates. More than the regular sandwich, this modified burrito is stuffed with extra cheese and meat.

5. Turkey Burger

Most often this is falsely compared with lean protein. But, a ground turkey burger, along with the toppings, can be fatty depending on the turkey used and the extras added.

6. Fruit Smoothies

 These contain high fructose corn syrup and added sugars, much like regular milkshakes.

7. Granola Bar

It is assumed that a bar with oats provides protein and fiber. But, it contains high fructose corn syrup, which keeps the bar together. This increases the blood sugar rapidly, and is therefore not an ideal diet food.

8. Bagel with Cream Cheese

A bagel contains a lot of calories–around 300–along with 60 gms of carbohydrates; it is not an ideal kind of diet bread. Add some cream cheese, and it is definitely a high fat food.

9. Pasta Salad

 Pastas are made of highly refined flours, which are quick burning carbohydrates that raise blood sugars easily. 

10. Margarine

 Many assume margarine to be safe, but it contains trans-fats that is linked to heart disease.

11. Pasta Primavera

 Though this food contains vegetables, it is loaded with cream, butter and quick burning carbohydrates.

12. Dried fruits

 People assume this is a low calorie food. But, the dried fruits contain added sugars.

13. Fish Sandwich

 Though fish is healthy, it is not when it is fried and covered with cheese and tartar sauce. It is a spoiler rather than a beneficial food.

14. Yogurt with Fruit on the Bottom

 These yogurt cups have fruits within them that contain high-fructose corn syrup and are not like the natural fruits.

15. Zesty Chicken Border Bowl 

The zesty chicken border bowl is assumed to be a healthy food, as it is low in cholesterol and a good source of Vitamin A. But, this food has a high sodium content, contains 640 calories and should be avoided.
